FeatureCurve/ShapeCurve/TrackCurve

All 3 functions are simular, how do you know when to use Feature Curve or Shape Curve or Track Curve?????

Is there some rule of thumbs out there???
All the help looks the same for all 3 functions???
I am sure i am missing something
